Chateau Palmer 1979 VINTAGE WINES 1969A good effort in this vintage for Chateau Palmer, one of the wines of the vintage, and it has taken longer to evolve than many of its peers. Typical blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. 75cl bottle. Abv% not stated. Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level top shoulder.
there were some good wines on the left bank
Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvignon
Kilmarnock
Served in the same was as a dessert wine
Effectively this is the third wine produced by Chateau Cheval Blanc similar to Pauillac De Latour
blackcurrant acid (not as much as the 76’) with dusty but quite seamless tannins
with this being pre 1945 when they started changing the label each year
Still not a great vintage
1970 was a lovely vintage for the region
As a result these ports are quite rare
One of the best second wines produced on the left bank
however at a recent tasting (September 2022) this wine showed well
